The success story of LEONHARD WEISS

Building brick by brick, side by side, to create something to be proud of... this childlike fascination, creativity and teamwork is the motto of LEONHARD WEISS. However, the family-owned company has recognised that the "joy of building" is by no means child's play, but a real road to success, and has started to create the conditions for this in many areas at an early stage.

Work-life balance, personal responsibility, a family atmosphere

The fact that it pays to focus on such "soft" factors in the tough construction industry is demonstrated by the success of LEONHARD WEISS in Europe and on the training market. In 2014, the Focus ranking also provided measurable proof of what many employees already knew: according to the study, LEONHARD WEISS is one of the "Best Employers in Germany". In the "Construction and Architecture" category, the company has even been ranked first for several years, and second since 2016. In the most recent survey of 2024, LEONHARD WEISS once again topped the rankings.

The online survey asked around 20,000 employees in Germany about their working conditions, family friendliness and working atmosphere. An important point is whether employees would recommend their job or employer to friends and family. In the latest ranking, LEONHARD WEISS achieved 175.8 out of 200 points. This shows that the familyowned company sets standards in the construction industry when it comes to personnel development and satisfaction. 

In a sector characterised by a shortage of skilled workers and price wars, the family business continues to put people first. It believes that top performance is achieved when employees identify with the company and feel good about themselves. That is why joint events, workshops and free sports courses are just as much a part of it as a good salary, career and training opportunities, safety at work and comprehensive health management. 

Another key issue for many years has been the compatibility of family and career. Intelligent working time models such as trust-based working hours have been introduced in the office sector, and new offers such as holiday care have been created. Work on construction sites has also become more flexible, with more 'free Fridays', part-time working and variable deployment planning. Today, 'family awareness' has arrived in the minds of all LEONHARD WEISS departments. However, there is still room for improvement.

At a time when technology is developing rapidly, society is constantly changing and with it the demands on work, the traditional values of the family business, as first laid down in the mission statement in 1989, are something like a compass. LEONHARD WEISS regularly checks whether it is still on the right course. In 2015, LEONHARD WEISS will launch its compliance system – a kind of code of conduct with specific rules on occupational safety, the handling of company property, but also principles on the rejection of discrimination and environmental protection, among other things, which have been formulated on the basis of the mission statement. In 2020 and 2023, the company will conduct employee surveys with its partner 'Great Place to Work' to find out where the company can improve – and develop targeted measures. 

LEONHARD WEISS also wants to preserve its identity as a traditional family business in the growing, Europe-wide group of companies and live it in its day-to-day business. The fact that the company was once again awarded first place as a "TOP Company" in 2024, but also the many small stories of apprentices who go above and beyond, of employees who can no longer imagine their lives without LEONHARD WEISS, show that the family business is on the right track. On the way it started 125 years ago.
