Training as a supporting pillar for the future

Without its young professionals, LEONHARD WEISS would not be what it is today. It was recognised early on that the apprentices could become the experts and managers of tomorrow: when the company was founded, Leonhard Weiß also started to train people in the various construction areas and to promote know-how. In 1972, the family-owned company started to provide training in accordance with official legal requirements and continues to invest heavily in the opportunities and optimal conditions for its newcomers.

A matter close to our hearts

Maybe he or she will start in the office, as a building materials tester or surveying technician. Or in the workshop as an electronics engineer or stone sculptor. Or maybe in the classic way out on the construction site in an excavator as a construction equipment operator, as a road builder or as a track layer. No matter where apprentices start their journey at LEONHARD WEISS – new opportunities for growth, new directions or promotion will always arise in the course of their working lives. And no matter where the path leads, apprentices are part of a large family from the very beginning.

In my time as a trainer from 1972, I have led 450 apprentices to success. For the apprentices, the most important thing was to learn order, decency, discipline and punctuality. We taught these things during the in-company training in our own training workshop (which was an absolute novelty at the time).

Design your own future

During the apprenticeship, LEONHARD WEISS puts special emphasis on teaching economic thinking, leadership and team skills and the successful handling of innovative technologies. Because the apprenticeship is just the beginning. After the apprenticeship, all paths are open to young talent in the family-run company. Careers from apprentice to foreman to site manager and even further are not uncommon.

Everyone gets a chance with us, and that's the good thing. If someone doesn't go to university or comes to us from a secondary modern school and is a good worker, then they get a chance.

Since 1984. It's raining awards

Our intensive commitment to training has also been recognised by the public. In 1984, Federal President Karl Carstens expressed his special appreciation to LEONHARD WEISS for exemplary achievements in vocational training. This was followed by many more awards in practical performance competitions at state and federal level, and even a world championship title. In 2010, the family-owned company received the Training Award, followed by a series of awards as ‘Best Training Company’ and ‘Top Employer BAU’.

The construction of the new technology centre in Satteldorf also includes modern training rooms and workshop areas. Here, trainers impart far more knowledge than the curriculum requires.

2025. 21 apprenticeships at 22 locations

LEONHARD WEISS has so far trained well over 3,000 young people, many of whom are still employed in the family business today and are continuing to develop. At an increasing number of locations in Germany, young professionals can choose between different apprenticeships.

2025. Training centre becomes training centre

The fight for good junior staff and skilled workers has also reached LEONHARD WEISS a long time ago. It is important to be attractive as an employer for the future and to offer development opportunities for all people in the company. These aspects are combined in the new training centre. It will become a training and further education centre for all generations. It will not only be a place for teaching craftsmanship and tradition, but will also offer space and state-of-the-art equipment for teaching innovative processes and techniques. The workshops, training rooms and common rooms are surrounded by a spacious outdoor area where all the trades can find their place.
